Family Traditions

At the holidays, we have so many wonderful traditions. We often prepare the same food every year and the holidays wouldn’t be the same without it.  Growing up in my family, Christmas dinner dessert was always homemade peppermint ice cream using candy canes from the tree with my mother’s special hot fudge sauce. Delicious! For those who celebrate Christmas, the same stockings are hung by the fireplace or on a wall every holiday. Some stockings are personalized with a name or image, some have been needlepointed or knit, others are store bought. Still others belong to a specific family member: she’s got the reindeer, he’s got the Santa, they’ve got the sled. Families have all sorts of traditions and they differ from home to home.

How about starting a new tradition? If we reuse the same stockings every year, why not reuse the same gift wrap? It would avoid a lot of trash and save a lot of money along the way. It could also be passed down to the next generation.

We can imagine this with Rapt. Maybe you use a special fabric or color way with a particular family member and that becomes their set over the years. And then their children’s set. Or you  buy a Family Set or multiple Starter Sets and use the sheets among yourselves every year. My sister-in-law did just that last year. You can read about it in the blog about Kim Reynolds on our site. She has an interesting story!

We heard another story from a woman at a trunk show who shared her lovely family tradition. Her mother kept wrapping paper for decades and every year wrapped one present in this special vintage paper. I was so intrigued I peppered her with questions? Didn’t the paper rip? Did she use tape? Was the present the same size every year? Did she ever cut the paper? Apparently, everyone knew to be VERY careful with that present so the wrapping paper would last from one year to the next. And so far it has.

The same could be true with Rapt sustainable gift wrap - and it should last even longer! Rapt is the gift that keeps on giving. Pass it on!
