Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating!

Eid al-Fitr, or "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is a major three-day Islamic holiday marking the end of the dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. In 2026, it falls on March 20 - 21, based on the lunar calendar. It’s a time of spiritual reflection, gratitude, communal prayer (salat), and charity.

Eid celebrates the completion of the 30-day fast of Ramadan, one of the Five Pillars of Islam. During this time, Muslims express gratitude for the strength to complete the fast and for guidance. The festival involves visiting relatives, hosting gatherings, giving food or money to the poor, and exchanging gifts (Eidi). Some traditions include visiting the graves of loved ones. On the first morning, Muslims gather in large, often open-air, congregations for a special two-rakat prayer. It is customary to wear new or one’s best clothes. The holy day features special dishes, pastries, and candies which is why it is known as “Sweet Eid.”

At this time, Muslims greet one another with "Eid Mubarak" (Blessed Eid).
